A Chat with Bella Rose (09.09.21)

The solo project of musician Isabella Munoz, Bella Rose is already a known artist in the pop scene. Since the release of her debut EP Polaroid Stories: Unity, Rose has been well-received by bloggers and curators reaching a global audience. We speak with Bella Rose about her new album, creative process, animal reincarnation and much more!

OSR: What inspires you to make music?

Bella Rose: I get inspired a lot from my personal life, mainly from experiences surrounding my life as an autistic individual. I’m also heavily inspired by my favourite musicians too and I often like to try to reinterpret their songs in my own way or in new perspectives.

OSR: What is the backstory to your album Music From Midnight Emotions, Vol. 1?

Bella Rose: Midnight Emotions was originally not going to happen, but one late night I was just jamming on the keys and singing and came up with the first track ‘Fragile’. I knew once I got the demo down that I wanted to use some of my finished tracks just sitting on my hard drive and make an album out of them. All with a central theme too. Some of them I wrote during the album’s process too though!

OSR: If you could describe the album using one sentence, what would that be?

Bella Rose: Girl jamming on the piano singing about moments in 2020 and 2021.

OSR: Did you face any challenges when recording the album?

Bella Rose: There were times during Covid lockdowns, especially last year, where I felt drained and unmotivated to write anything. While recording too, I was doing so in an untreated room so I had to always tell my family to be a little quiet so I could record. ? They understood, which is nice.

OSR: If you had to categorise your music, what genre(s) would you place yourself in?

Bella Rose: Alternative pop? Honestly, I have no clue but that’s an idea.

OSR: What is your creative process?

Bella Rose: I first off figure out what I wanna write about. Once I have an idea, the lyrics are written up on paper. I like pen and paper to write stuff out. After that is thinking about the chords. Alternatively, I just jam and see what comes out; with that method, I have so many voice recordings on my phone.

OSR: Do you have a favourite track on the new album?

Bella Rose: That’s such a difficult question. Honestly, I’m teetering towards ‘Are You Sure?’ and ‘That Feeling’.

OSR: What about your least favourite?

Bella Rose: ‘What Do I Do’. I think I rushed the recording process of that track a little since I was super eager to get everything done. I feel like if I had more time on it, I could’ve done better but I dislike going back and changing things. I keep them as they are.

OSR: Do you have any phobias?

Bella Rose: Surprisingly, I can be afraid of loud noises and crowds. That’s weird as a musician, right?

OSR: If you could be reincarnated into any animal, what would it be and why?

Bella Rose: I’d be a bird, like a parrot or a pelican. I like the idea of being able to fly around.

OSR: Do you have any message for our readers?

Bella Rose: Hey, thank you so much for reading this interview! I hope that this brightened your day. I feel like where you read things shows your character and the fact you read these interviews and blogs shows that you really love music. I’ll hopefully see you over the flip side. Enjoy the rest of your day!
