A Chat with 45 (08.06.2020)
Coming out of Bradford, Chris (guitar), Craig (vocals, guitar) and Matt (bass) make up the band 45. Bringing together a mix of influences, the band has released a mini-album Funstroke that is lightly fried with a touch of stooges. We sat down with the band to talk about Funstroke, their music and much more!
OSR: If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing right now?
45: Learning to play, or space travel.
OSR: Who inspired you to make music?
45: No one artist or band, just loads of them all together and wanting to try and do something that might stand up. The Jesus & Mary Chain, Neil Young, The Stone Roses, AC/DC, Motown, Bob Dylan. Everything goes in and we see what comes out.
OSR: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
45: Measure once, cut twice. Measure twice, cut once.
OSR: What is the weirdest or funniest question you’ve ever been asked in an interview?
45: How’s your dad’s hair?
OSR: What do you feel is the best song you’ve ever released and why?
45: So far, ‘Navigator’. Everything just clicks and makes you want to hit repeat. We have just written a load more songs ready to record once things allow though and think they’re a step up again.
OSR: Which musician would you like to collaborate with?
45: Shaun Ryder on a new track we’ve written called ‘The bar at the end of the world’.
OSR: Do you think you could get any better as a musician? And if so, how would you achieve that?
45: You can always get better. More practice is the key but the space travel gets in the way a bit.
OSR: Where have you performed? What are your favourite and least favourite venues?
45: Most memorable, if nothing else, was on the back of a Milk Float in a pub car park where the power kept cutting out and every time it did people started fighting. The power cut out quite a bit. We did cut the set short and got out of there.
OSR: On a scale of 1 to 6181, how good is your new album compared to your last one?
45: 4,635.75. always room for improvement.
OSR: If you can have your fans remember one thing about you, what would it be?
45: Craig is a very approachable person.
