Track of the Day: Whereafter – Blind Heart (2025)

Eager to explore the complexities of humanity in all its tragedy and triumph, singer-songwriter Whereafter tackles reality with intimacy, individuality and intoxicating emotional connections. As with many musicians who extract brutal honesty from existential issues, Whereafter hopes to provide solace for listeners who might feel trapped, misunderstood and confused; simultaneously, the perplexities are intricately woven into his music making it empowering but draining. Come with us as we delve into his debut single, ‘Blind Heart’.

The first single from Whereafter’s upcoming album, blessed & depressed – a journey through the “raw and introspective exploration of living with depression while navigating the complexities of an outwardly blessed life…” – ‘Blind Heart’ brashly confronts this duality with soaring guitars, crashing drums, bold bass, and gritty vocals. Interestingly, while the lilting to soul-stirring hard rock exists, melodic metal peeps from the melody with a vintage alternative rock clinging to the track’s edges.

Drawing me back to the days of Three Doors Down, Seether, and Third Eye Blind, the powerful instrumentation immediately tosses you into a tumultuous sonic hurricane; its music recklessly pulls you in all directions as it seeps into your soul and ensnares your senses. Yet, while the overall attitude of ‘Blind Heart’ leans toward chaotic frenzy, a veiled soothing and calmness flutters beneath with Whereafter embracing you to protect against the madness within.

Melodically, ‘Blind Heart’ is an enigmatic rush of body-shaking, soul-stirring, mind-blowing (not literally) hard rock. The thing is, as much as the soundscape is likened to that final shot of vodka after a crazy night out, the lyricism and theme make ‘Blind Heart’ profound and weighty. Whereafter explains:

“’Blind Heart’ is about the tension between despair and gratitude. It’s deeply personal but also universal. So many people wrestle with the contrast between how they feel inside and how their lives appear on the outside. I hope this song resonates with anyone trying to reconcile those emotions. It’s not so much about fixing the problem, but rather conveying to the listener that they aren’t alone in their experience.”
