Bohardt – For You (2025)

As if sitting back and reading entries from his personal diary, Bohardt’s music is intimate, intense and intriguing. Eager to explore the complexities of existence, his music intricately entwines the darkness of toxicity and tragedy with the shining light of hope and positivity – all layered with his unique brand of… well, there’s a lot going on in the genre-diverse style. While this is my introduction to Bohardt, the US-based singer-songwriter has been making waves internationally with his concoction of intense alternative pop for years. With his “slew of singles since 2019”, all held to critical acclaim, Bohardt turns the heads of global audiences far beyond his US borders. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘For You’.

Following his well-received track ‘Tomorrow’, ‘For You’ is Bohardt’s first step into 2025 as he finds himself “…at a place where I can really start taking myself serious as a musician.” This by no means alludes to Bohardt being whimsical about his musical journey; it is another evolution in the singer-songwriter’s path showcasing his constant innovation, originality, and genuineness.

Produced with long-time collaborator Stefan Mac at Orange County’s The Resort studio, ‘For You’ might fall into the pop genre, but it is far more than what we expect from Bruno Mars – one of the artists Bohardt mentions as an inspiration for ‘For You’. The single has an alternative pop flavour, but it clings to the mish-mash of alternative rock, pop rock, and even a touch of jazz peeking from behind. Interestingly, as these genres weave together in a vintage tapestry, Bohardt adds a contemporary edginess making the sound refreshingly new but comfortably familiar.

Melodically, the crashing drums, bold beats and soaring guitars carry you along a kaleidoscopic bubble of noise, but it is the lyricism that adds profound weightiness to the track. Capturing the complexities of relationships, ‘For You’ is a delicate exposition of human vulnerability, fragility and tragedy. Bohardt explains:

“’For You’ talks about the messy reality of love – the kind where you say “I love you” but don’t really know if you mean it. It’s about wanting to be there for someone but struggling with your own flaws and unfaithfulness. Lines like “every day I say I love you too/ And every single day I wish it wasn’t true” capture that push and pull of loving someone while feeling like you’re falling short.”
