Inspirational, experimental, authentic and unique – Shweta Harve is an artist who will turn your head, make you think, and move your soul with her music. With an aim of penning songs that “…evoke feelings, thoughts, and take listeners on a journey through life and beyond…”, the US-based musician creates earworms, but with a profoundness to explore what happens beneath the surface of reality. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Why So Busy?’.
Following the well-received track ‘Who Are You’, ‘Why So Busy?’ tackles society and everyday reality with indie-rock gusto. Life is so busy nowadays – there’s no chance to breathe, take a chill pill, lay back and experience….well, life. Think about it, if you aren’t on your iPhone, you’re on your iPad or laptop. Television takes the place of reading with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ on constant streaming; and even reading has hit technology with Kindles instead of paper texts.
It’s stressful just typing about this, but Shweta Harve, joined by composer Dario Cei, take what is considered the norm, delve into its gritty depths, and pull you along for the ride. Inspired by the scenes of distracted individuals and haunted by an overburdened life, ‘Why So Busy?’ questions our overindulgent, hectic lifestyles. Harve explains:
“Learn to be present in any given moment. Learn to question the value of constant hustle. Slow down, rethink how you use your time, and find that balance in your own life.”
Melodically, ‘Why So Busy?’ is a concoction of indie-rock, classic rock with a sliver of indie-pop fluttering in the background. A harmonic fusion of pulsating drums, shimmering piano, and a scorching guitar, the track oscillates from dark and tragic to hopeful and optimistic. For me, however, it is the vocals that up the ante. Harve’s smooth alto offers a spell-binding infectiousness to the haunting single. Yet, as Harve captures the lower register, Dario Cei hits some high notes adding an off-kilter eclecticism to the track.
Sincere, sentimental, nostalgically old-school rock layered with contemporary vibes, ‘Why So Busy?’ is a song you must sit down, listen to and enjoy its honesty.
