The Domi – Days Of Wonder (2024)
Already an established artist in France and beyond, Dominique Lemaire was previously the leader of the band Enee – a group known for their eclectic blend of pop and rock. Yet, it is with his solo project that Lemaire captures our gaze. Performing under the moniker The Domi, Lemaire has been described as a “happy mix of dream-pop and rock”; however, I feel his brand of music reaches further than pop and rock. Pushing the realm of pop to its limits, one can hear hints of indie-pop, indie-rock, pop-rock, and alternative pop in The Domi’s melodies. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Days Of Wonder’.
While Lemaire held international audiences captive, we were introduced to his infectious music with the single ‘Touch of Mystery’. Continuing his well-received repertoire, ‘Days Of Wonder’ follows the critically acclaimed ‘All The Best’ and ‘By My Side Again’. Showcasing his genre diversity and musical eclecticism, ‘Days Of Wonder’ oozes the jangle-pop cheeriness of yesteryear, but with the grittiness of indie-rock slicing through the track merging into a unique breed of indie-pop.
Think the Beatles mashed with Pet Shop Boys and a smidgen of Tame Impala, and you might have some vague idea of The Domi; then again, there is a certain individuality making Lemaire stand tall in his own right. The vintage branch of pop not only oozes from ‘Days Of Wonder’ but transcends decades with its silvery peel of sound. In other words, Lemaire brings nostalgic whispers to 2024 with powerful synths, dreamy keys and a hushed vocal.
For me, the melody is a laidback chilled-out groove in which you can lose yourself; however, it is the vocals that add something special. Veiled by the kaleidoscopic, cinematic soundscape, Lemaire’s voice flows along the indie-pop tune; yet, in its small, quiet, compliant way, it is forceful and bold holding your hand as you careen down a sonic river. Tender, rich and warm, The Domi embraces you in a comforting hug with ‘Days Of Wonder’ offering happiness, optimism, and all-around oodles of fun.
