Max Rȇve – One Moment (2024)

A few months ago, we came across singer-songwriter and producer Max Rȇve with his single ‘Awake’. It was our awakening to a complex blending of myth and reality, pain and promise, tumultuousness and tender calm in kaleidoscopic sonic wrappers. Max Rȇve was the man behind these intricate melodies, and he soon became an enigmatic force in our little world of The Other Side Reviews. As a seasoned producer, Germany-based Rȇve has worked with various established musicians over the years; however, it is his solo project that draws our attention. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘One Moment’.

On the heels of critically acclaimed singles ‘Falling’ and ‘Awake’, ‘One Moment’ is another step into Max Rȇve’s eclectic brand of music. Embracing hints of dream-pop, there is an eclectic cinematic soundscape to ‘One Moment’; however, it is the daub of rap and electronica that makes the track far more profound than his previous material.

Showcasing his skills as a producer, ‘One Moment’ is a sophisticated arrangement created with elegant maturity and flair. Yet, simultaneously, a sense of immaturity lingers slipping youthful innocence into the polished melody. Influenced by Depeche Mode and Gorillaz, ‘One Moment’ oozes vintage dream-pop, but the obscurity of Gorillaz’s rapping shines through Rȇve’s rich vocals. It is this interplay of soothing haziness and brash abruptness that makes the song a juxtaposition of grit and glimmer – even without the lyricism.

Melodically, ‘One Moment’ is an enigmatic rush of mystical charm with a decided nod to reality. We float along a sonic river with tumultuous waves rocking the boat while soothing calm drifts across the glassy surface. Max Rȇve uses this imagery as an avant-garde expression of life journeys; to celebrate the past, the present and the yet-to-come. He explains:

“’One Moment’ is about living life to its fullest and cherishing each moment. Time is limited and too precious to be wasted…”

Sincere and sentimental with wistful longing and smouldering empowerment, ‘One Moment’ is an experimental fusion of music. Only his third single to date, Max Rȇve still has much to offer, and I am eager to see (or rather hear) more from this talented musician.
