9 o’clock Nasty – Kid Blast (2024)
Relentless and rambunctious, 9 o’clock Nasty is the band you don’t take home to your mother. Deliciously decadent with a luxurious slathering of punk-rock chaos, the Leicester-based threesome has a reputation for being a little crazy; however, their rogue stature is not surface level, but dwells further within the darky mire of musical madness. From hardcore punk to hip-hop, alternative rock and even a drop of funk, 9 o’clock Nasty saunters across genres pushing what they have to an unconventional limit. The latest addition to their “no to be pigeonholed” discography is the single ‘Kid Blast’.
On the heels of their well-received singles ‘Too Cool (The EQ Remix)’ and ‘Bad Vegan’, 9 o’clock Nasty embraces the essence of carpe diem – to live, love, and celebrate life – with ‘Kid Blast’. A song of duality, ‘Kid Blast’ is simultaneously brash and mellifluous. Distorted and dangerous, but with a soothing charm blunting the punk-rock shards. Pounding drums, a bold bass, and scorching guitars fuse in the harmonic single despite its coarseness and abrupt nature. Yet, for me, it is the vocals that add finesse to the overall tune.
With a bit of a bite, ‘Kid Blast’ nips at your heels… then again, warmth exudes in rich tones carrying you past the broken mirrors and grimy dirt. Sentimental and sincere, it’s not a ballad to be adored but a cheeky kid with a rapscallion attitude who wants you to consider him a rogue, but he’s too cute for that.
The melody itself is complex, but the lyricism enhances the profound message intricately woven through ‘Kid Blast’. 9 o’clock Nasty explains:
“Kid Blast was a real human. He got up like you. He sat on the toilet like you. He had friendships like you. He left a mark on the world, just like you will… Choose the mark you make. Take care with the traces you leave. Then blaze the path you choose…”
In addition to the single, 9 o’clock Nasty released an official music video for ‘Kid Blast’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
