Track of the Day: Asgard Raven – What Will Be, Will Be (2024)
If you’re a fan of Oasis, Midnight Preachers, and Lennie Rayen, the chances are you’ll enjoy the sounds of singer-songwriter Asgard Raven. Yet, just as there is a leaning toward old-school indie-rock and Britpop, Raven weaves a unique flair fluttering in his melodies. Inspired by life in all its gritty glory, the UK-based musician draws on elements of rock, punk, and blues, eagerly delving into the complexity of human existence. Join us as jump headfirst into Raven’s most recent single, ‘What Will Be, Will Be’.
Following his well-received singles ‘Tranquillity’ and ‘Chasing Your Dreams’, ‘What Will Be, Will Be’ retains Raven’s similarity to 1990s Oasis; however, it steps from more Britpop with heavier allusions to alternative rock with flits of blues twinkling in the melody. If you consider jumping into a kaleidoscopic whirlpool of music, ‘What Will Be, Will Be’ is the flashes of red and green breaking through a dark wall of sound.
Combining a soaring guitar, crashing drums, and pulsating bass, ‘What Will Be, Will Be’ can easily be described as a stunning tune. Not only is it stunning in its outstanding nature, but it truly stuns a person in an intoxicating way. You might twirl about in its kaleidoscopic sonic haze, but the heavy, hard-hitting rush of rock slips between your ears, rattles about your cranium and leaves you gasping for breath from its psychedelic sheen. So, not just twirling about but laying back in a sonic stupor – a good one, though.
While the melody itself is insatiable, the lyricism and theme add weightiness to an already weighty song. Asgard Raven explains:
“There comes a point in life where we have a moment of reflection on what we’ve achieved and what we have yet to accomplish. ‘What Will Be, Will Be’ is about that switch from passive living to active pursuit of our dreams, and the desire to enjoy every moment of whatever time we have in this world.”
