Electric High – Weeping Gods (2024)

So aptly named, Norwegian band Electric High gives audiences a high-voltage, heart-pumping, metaphorical lightning strike whenever you hear their music. From their 2020 single ‘Harder To Justify’ to 2021’s ‘Trembling Bones’ and 2023’s ‘Crooks’, the foursome blend a magically mesmerising musical concoction. This is not our introduction to Electric High, but each single continues to astound despite a somewhat familiar, oddly comforting sensation. Join us as we jump into their latest single ‘Weeping Gods’.

Following their critically acclaimed single ‘Hear Me Out’, ‘Weeping Gods’ is Electric High’s second step in their 2024 musical journey. Co-produced with Daniel Birkeland, with mixing and mastering by Iver Sandǿy, ‘Weeping Gods’ is a combination of a bold bass, scorching guitars and crashing drums rolling toward a powerful rush of hard rock. As with many hard rock-driven songs, each instrument presents strong individuality in the powerful sound; however, ‘Weeping Gods’ takes the prominent separation and blends everything into an intricately harmonic sonic swirl.

With two lead vocalists, Electric High shows an ebb and flow between the push-and-pull relationship of the voices. In ‘Weeping Gods’, the bold tones find a line between delicate whisper and gruff forcefulness bringing a rollercoaster sound not only through instrumentation. Moreover, the mesh of crashing rawness with underlying soothing inserts a strong melodic metal overtone to the song.

The melody itself is a head-spinning, gut-wrenching, slap-in-the-face masterpiece; yet, it is the alignment with the song’s theme that brings profoundness to ‘Weeping Gods’. Electric High explain:

“…the topic here is the interminable one of how confessing your sins shall release you of all guilt. What does that mean exactly? Does it mean that you can do whichever harm you damn like with no consequences? It may seem so in certain religious circles. Sin, confess, and sin again. Hit the repeat button on this one and you will have a damn good time, guaranteed!”
