Misha Chylkova – The Loop (2024)

London – the enigmatic, mischievous, entrancing, exciting, sometimes intoxicating city of bright hopes, dark tragedy and “oh my days, that is far too cool” attitude. People fall in love with London, people fall out of love with London, and people discover themselves in London. Singer-songwriter Misha Chylkova discovered her passion for music and leapt to pursue a musical career. From 2021’s ‘I Will/ Will You?’ to 2024’s ‘Devil’s Night’, the Czechoslovakia native showcases her originality blending folk-rock, new wave, indie-rock, dream pop and psychedelic rock. Today we’re taking a look and listen at the most recent addition to her discography, ‘The Loop’.

Following the well-received single ‘Sparrows’, ‘The Loop’ is a flood of vibrant, vivacious dream pop set to capture your heart from the first note. Produced and recorded with Jonathan Clayton, with mixing by James Aparicio, ‘The Loop’ oscillates between raw innocence and sophisticated maturity in its sound and style. Wiggling into your cranium and taking a turn about your brain, the single combines Ian Button’s bold drums, Darren Hayman’s steady bass and spills of Chylkova’s dynamic guitar; however, the shimmering synths give ‘The Loop’ an extra shine.

For sure, ‘The Loop’ is a contemporary dream pop symphony, but the mystical ambience and vibe are what make it truly unique. Set for modern-day audiences, one can easily connect with the whimsical sounds; however, the tune leans toward traditional Celtic folk – this is particularly heard in Chylkova’s dulcet vocals. Soft, smooth and charming, hazy obscurity lulls about ‘The Loop’ while sharp vulnerability slices through the track.

This is my introduction to Misha Chylkova, and I find her extremely intriguing. With ‘The Loop’ she seizes both sides of the proverbial coin in complex simplicity, confident fragility and heart-warming heartache. I cannot wait for the upcoming album Dancing The Same Dance, set for release in November.
