Franc Loz – Crossroads (2024)

Insightful, honest, innovative and moving, singer-songwriter Franc Loz exposes the light and dark of reality with sonic delicacy. Having lived the “high school dream of having a rock band with his best friends…”, Loz sparked a passion for performance and composing original songs. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end (or so they say), and the US-based artist put music to the side; but he was unable to forget the pure joy of creating music. Today, he stokes those embers to release songs bred by dissatisfaction leaping to empowerment.

From Radiohead and Arcade Fire to Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend, Franc Loz saunters across various sounds in his unique melodies. With his debut single ‘Crossroads’, he weaves indie-rock with flecks of grunge in an almost Radiohead-esque sound. Yet, while strong leanings toward 90s indie-rock can be heard, a modern-day flair exudes from the track with soothing sophistication.

Joined by producer Donovan Sierra, Franc Loz finds the balance between contemporary and retro in ‘Crossroads’; however, its innovativeness stems further than a well-orchestrated melody. Combining crashing drums, soaring guitars, a bold bass and shimmering keys, you are tossed into a pool of kaleidoscopic sound with Loz’s rough vocals binding everything. The thing is, for me at least, it is the transcending nature of the theme that weaves old and new together with sophistication.

Exploring themes of time from not knowing your future destination to yearning for youth while being disgruntled with the cruelty of reality, ‘Crossroads’ is a soul-searching meander along the realm of humanity. A theme resonating with old and new audiences, the narrative of human life and loss captures audiences old and new melodically and lyrically – it is this aspect that makes Loz both charmingly soothing and confidently profound.
