Stellar Knights – Stop The Rain (2024)

Originally beginning as friends bonding over their love of music, Italian Stella D’Angelo (vocals) and South African Duncan Greenway (guitars, bass and synth) formed a connection. Eventually, love fluttered its wings, and the duo became a couple; then the music bug clambered into the romance, and we have Stellar Knights. Drawing together their cultural backgrounds, musical influences and experiences in different music scenes, Stellar Knights developed an eclectic sound sometimes rock, sometimes metal, but always exciting.

Following the critically acclaimed ‘Pisces’ and ‘Away From Here’, ‘Stop The Rain’ is Stellar Knights’ third track in 2024 and a taster to their upcoming debut EP. Similar to previous releases, ‘Stop The Rain’ retains the hard-hitting rush of hard rock pulsating through the guitars, bass and drums; however, it is not altogether identical to ‘Pisces’ and ‘Away From Here’. Bringing the pace down, the track is slower and oddly enough more soothing in its reduced pace… then again, this gives ‘Stop The Rain’ a stronger melodic impact.

Some songs are merely heard while others need to be felt, Stellar Knights immerses audiences with every single they release. Set off on a glistening sonic river, you glide across the glassy surface in a comfortable raft in ‘Stop The Rain’. Soft, soothing, charming and gentle, the ripples lull you into calm bliss; then it takes a turn. The tumultuous wave of crashing drums (courtesy of Moyano el Buffalo) and Greenway’s soaring guitars roar with pending chaos. Interestingly, the push and pull of heavy instruments is a wall of rage but with the harmonic unity of a delicate symphony.

While the melody can win your heart and flow through your veins, D’Angelo’s silvery vocals add a shimmer to the dark well. Powerful, bold and forceful, her confident performance takes centre stage; however, haunting vulnerability lingers along in the complex tune. A song about sins, immortality and love, ‘Stop The Rain’ captures the depth of existence and significance of love in a hard rock song.
