Proklaim – Mimosa (2024)

Namibia-based hip-hop artist Proklaim makes music that is uplifting, empowering and hopeful, but there’s also a profound complexity in the songs finding a line between relief and vulnerability. With experimental eclecticism pushing traditional genres to their limits, an intricate concoction of hip-hop, rap, funk, Afrobeat, and even some soul shimmers in Proklaim’s music. Since our introduction to music in 2023, Proklaim has graced our eyes and ears with a regular splash of warming hip-hop. One of the most recent additions to Proklaim’s discography is the single ‘Mimosa’.

Following the well-received singles ‘GUARD’ and ‘Medicate’, ‘Mimosa’ retains Proklaim’s signature hip-hop style but with a silvery thread of funk interwoven in the melody. Eager to discover new talent online, ‘Mimosa’ uses the beats of talented beat-maker Jake Laiuni. Almost immediately after hearing Laiuni, Proklaim decided to write some lyrics and laying the track. He explains that “it was a straight-forward session, I enjoy the beats’ soulful bounce…”

Bold rap sliding along a harmonious blend of funk, hip hop and slip of soul rounding things off, ‘Mimosa’ is a unique shimmering gem amidst Proklaim’s pool of songs; not saying that his other tracks are fascinating, ‘Mimosa’ grabs your heart and ensnares our senses in its soul-stirring sound.

Jovial and optimistic, Proklaim’s singles are resilient, hopeful and resonate with people seeking to find that bright light at the end of the tunnel. In 2024’s ‘LIFE’ and ‘FOR YOU’, a flood of tenderness ran through the music connecting on a sheen of positivity. Proklaim’s theme of “carpe diem” is the core of the single; ‘Mimosa’ continues the message. He explains:

“The song is about pioneering regardless of whether the roads have been treaded by others before you… it’s about taking up the space you feel you belong…”
