Jeff Vidov – Running In Place (2024)

Renowned composer, pianist, producer, arranger, and singer-songwriter, Jeff Vidov is a musical paragon with over three decades in the industry. From classical orchestral symphonies and operas to soundtracks of notable movies and television shows, but also a jazz pianist with rock and pop flavours in his music… this is just a quick introduction to the eclectic Vidov. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Running In Place’

On the heels of his critically acclaimed tracks ‘Oh mi da dey di’ and ‘Baby can u dig your man’, ‘Running In Place’ leans further toward alternative rock as compared to the pop-tinged singles. Combining soaring guitars with Lucas Seaone’s crashing drums and Marco Toba’s bold bass, ‘Running In Place’ is a kaleidoscopic rush of sound whipping past your face. Tapping at the best of 90s rock, the time of Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Smashing Pumpkins, Vidov brings the essence of yesteryear to modern-day audiences. Interestingly, while a strong hit of 90s alt-rock exists, the slip of synths gives ‘Running In Place’ a psychedelic pop-tinged edge.

Melodically, the tune is intriguing slicing smooth synths through hard-hitting drums and guitars; however, the poetic lyricism enhances the complexity of the infectious, fun-filled tune. Questioning Shakespeare’s discourse on destiny, the essence of fate, and some French lines wrapped about Shakespearean quotes, ‘Running In Place’ is a dream brought to reality. Vidov explains:

“’Running In Place’ is about taking fate into your own hands and sometimes challenging your fate. This is one of a few songs I dreamt and actually remembered when I woke up…”
