Bunch of Ace – Apple Tree (2024)

With bright eyes and youthful smiles, 15-year-old musicians Alandra and Alessja are just teenagers who can charm anyone with their twinkling grins; however, there is far more to the happy youngsters than meets the eye. Youthful exuberance brims from the pair’s bold personalities but old soul wisdom belies the childish exterior. Hailing from Germany, twins Alandra (vocals, bass and guitar) and Alessja (vocals, keyboard and drums) share their music as Bunch of Ace with a sound of joyful bounce but profound themes.

While the pair began writing music at age 13 and made their performance debut at 14, it is now that they bring their exciting tunes to the world. Inspired by vintage rock, pop and soul, the duo fuse the sounds of the 70s and 80s with a modern-day edginess. Transcending decades, their moving music is a thread of silvery light proving that passion for music is not designated to time, space or distance. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Apple Tree’.

Following the well-received tracks ‘Everyday’ and ‘Where Our Heart Goes’, Bunch of Ace continue to prove they are not a one-trick pony. Shifting from the indie-rock-driven debut ‘Where Our Heart Goes’ to the soulful jazz-tinged ‘Everyday’, ‘Apple Tree’ brims with 90s pop. Interestingly, while there is a strong bounce to the jovial pop track, the instrumentation draws shimmers of indie-pop and pop-rock to the melody.

Recorded by the twins in their basement, then mixed in Latvia with final mastering by Svante Forsbäck in Finland, one can easily say that ‘Apple Tree’ is an international labour of love. From the smooth, almost folksy piano/keyboard to the bold bass, pounding drums and soaring guitar, ‘Apple Tree’ is a kaleidoscopic symphony; however, despite the brightly coloured swirl of sound, the vocals offer a hint of sincere simplicity with the melodic rush.

The tune itself has me twirling about with a smile on my face but it is the lyricism that adds heartfelt intensity. Bunch of Ace explains:

“In the song, we describe our connection to nature, our ‘apple tree’. That’s where we feel at home. But that’s not tied to a specific location. Your home can be anywhere you feel comfortable.”
