The Domi – Touch of Mystery (2024)

Inspired by life in its totality, singer-songwriter The Domi (also known as Dominique Lemaire) captures various experiences in life with music, breathing a sense of raw honesty and intimacy into each moment. The founder and vocalist of the band Énée, Lemaire is already an established artist in France reaping critical acclaim for his performances, EPs, albums and singles with the group; however, it is his solo project that has us turning our heads. Opening a new chapter in his musical journey, The Domi builds a repertoire of “happy dream-pop and rock”. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Touch of Mystery’.

Following the well-received singles ‘There’s Beauty In The Struggle’ and ‘It’s A New Day’, The Domi presents his distinctive brand of indie-pop to our ears. Inspired by the likes of Nirvana, The Pixies and the Beatles, one can imagine the melting pot of diversity set before The Domi, however, ‘Touch of Mystery’ leans far more toward the jangle-pop tone of 60s Beatles.

Self-recorded and produced, the France-based artist gives us a glimpse of himself in his new single. Sophisticated and elegant, the arrangement shows polished skill, yet there is a naïve innocence woven through the melody teetering between youthful exuberance and bold maturity. I find this intriguing as it so eloquently aligns with the inspiration and theme of ‘Touch of Mystery’. Created as a tribute to a woman, the track embodies the mystery of female wiles alongside the desire to understand the mystery itself.

In an interview with Music Arena GH, The Domi noted Paul McCartney as a reference for him as a composer and writer, so it is intriguing that the single has such similarity to the nostalgic sounds of the Beatles. The concoction of guitar, drums and percussion ooze vintage jangle-pop; however, it is the poetic lyricism and rich vocals that truly breathe life into that retro style.

Sincere, sentimental and brimming with heartfelt tenderness, ‘Touch of Mystery’ is an intriguing insight into pure love. I cannot wait for more from this exciting indie-pop artist.
