Wavewulf – In Every Blue (2024)

Established as a trailblazer in the electronic pop scene, US-based musician Wavewulf pushes the boundaries of electronic music with an eclectic, innovative nature. Hailing from New York City, Wavewulf (also known as Nicholas Long) delves into the depths of electronic music producing an obscure, intricate and complex aural experience for captivated listeners. While this is my introduction to the artist, I am rather late to the party with Wavewulf receiving international critical acclaim from publications, radio stations, and playlist curators. From the UK to Brazil, France and Spain, he is turning heads with elegance and sophisticated flair. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘In Every Blue’.

Following his well-received singles ‘Unbreakable Soul’ and ‘Echo In The Dark’, ‘In Every Blue’ blends vintage synth-pop with modern-day electropop creating a bubble of familiar sound but contemporary edginess clinging to the tune. Wavewulf is known for his distinctive electronic music, but I find the unpredictability of the tracks to be his most enchanting feature. With ‘In Every Blue’, Wavewulf may stay within the realms of synth-pop, but the intricacy of the composition adds an overwhelming level of blissful confusion.

Self-recorded and produced, listening to ‘In Every Blue’ is an auditory and emotional rollercoaster. Like a living creature, the pulsating beats act as a pounding heartbeat with its steady character; then again, the ebb and flow of the bold beats tosses you from intriguing excitement to smooth flow. Synths whisper along making brash appearances while simultaneously carrying the melody like a kaleidoscopic foundation. Nala Spark’s dulcet vocals add warmth and richness to the track binding the tune and embracing you with delightful joy.

Taken off his upcoming full-length album Unbreakable Soul – an album where “each song is a narrative that evokes a range of feelings… and an exploration of the human soul… in an ever-changing world” – ‘In Every Blue’ is an intimate exposition of friendship in an uncertain society. As my introduction to Wavewulf, I find ‘In Every Blue’ a fantastic expression of sincerity, sentimentality and auethenticity. I cannot wait for the upcoming album and recommend you keep your eye on Wavewulf as well.
