Thandii – Dream With You (2024)
Hazy trip-hop is what Thandii are serving with ‘Dream With You’. This track is a fantastic precursor to their forthcoming album which shares the same name. Having worked as touring and recording musicians with some of the best artists in the current musical landscape, including Michael Kiwanunka and Little Somz to name but a few, Jessica Berry and Graham Godfrey have all the experience to produce some really special music.
‘Dream With You’ is a song you can instantly sing along to. Starting with a pumping bassline and interesting vocals reminiscent of acts such as MGMT and CSS, it creates a sense of nostalgia, whilst still offering something new with a contemporary relevance; which is no mean feat and I must applaud. It is wonderful how the track evolves and offers so much as the bouncy party feel gives way to a beautifully tuneful piano piece which flows through it right until the close bars, keeping it all together and the listener hooked.
Accompanying ‘Dream With You’ is the B-side ‘It Only Takes 2’ which shares a similar vibe while offering something slightly different. This is a refreshing approach holding court with your sound but keeping it fresh. ‘It Only Takes 2’ keeps its tempo from start to finish giving it a slightly more energetic feeling.
Having been recording their upcoming album in their home studio in Margate and already having 2 singles under their belt, 2024 has already been a busy year for Berry and Godfery. After hearing ‘Dream With You’, I’m sure they’re primed and ready to reap the rewards of the work they’ve already put on. I for one can’t wait to check out the album, described as playful whilst harbouring a serious undertone and with promises of a multitude of themes including relationships, self-worth and community to name but a few; it’s a shame we have to wait until 3rd September to check it out. The duo have hinted at more new music around the corner so hopefully we’ll have enough to tide us over until then.
