Alicia Daydreams – Remedy (2023)

Her fiery passion for music sparked early on in Alicia Daydreams’ life as she created songs by “humming her own melodies and writing lyrics” with a desire to connect with others through her moving music. As the years progressed, the small spark grew to smoldering embers and is now a roaring flare as she establishes herself on the pop music scene. At only 18 years old, Alicia Daydreams is a skilled and experienced singer, writer, composer, performer and producer. From cover songs to original pieces, her confidence is felt onstage and in the studio. This is our introduction to Alicia Daydreams, so join us as we jump headfirst into her critically acclaimed repertoire.

Following her well-received single ‘Maze’, and preceding her most recent release ‘Knock On My Door’, Alicia Daydreams ended 2023 on a high with ‘Remedy’. While the good girl bubble-gum pop sound endures in ‘Remedy’, there is a shift from dreamy wistfulness to hard-hitting flickers of indie-pop and disco. Light but evident, an indie-tinged rock-inspired guitar and drums creep into the kaleidoscopic sonic bubble; however, it is the combination of a powerful disco flare with the rock-tinged tones that see Alicia Daydreams move from soft songstress to powerful diva.

As I mentioned, this is my first time listening to Alicia Daydreams, so ‘Maze’ was a mixture of Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift. I wasn’t expecting much other than a commercial pop style… then ‘Remedy’ came my way. Trampling Tay-Tay for a soft match of Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, ‘Remedy’ is nostalgic but with a contemporary edge lingering in the production.

All songs can be interpreted in different ways, yet the underlying theme of ‘Remedy’ is obsession, toxicity and changing perspectives. Lilting at vulnerability, Alicia Daydreams smooth vocals carry fragility but drip ferocity in controlled chaos. While Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift do sing upbeat, empowering songs about overcoming heartbreaking situations, Alicia Daydreams’ ‘Remedy’ adds a bad girl exuberance with a confident waving of her hand as she walks away saying “You’re no good for me”.
