Luna Keller – She’s Not Good For Me (2024)

Over the past few months, singer-songwriter Luna Keller has opened her world, laid herself bare and taken us through some of the most vulnerable moments of her life with her music. All leading to her upcoming concept album, Ocean Inside of Me, singles like ‘Swallow The Sea’, ‘If I Was No More’, ‘Not Ready’ and ‘Shoulder’ carry us on her journey through depression. While each of the tracks is individual, a continuous thread runs through the melodies – something beyond sound, emotion and comprehension. Overtly it is the process of recovery; however, the surreal intensity and raw manner of, well, lifting you out of your body with a soul-stirring, skin-chilling, heart-aching feeling makes it something indescribable. Her new single, ‘She’s Not Good For Me’ captures the line between desperation and understanding that we call acceptance.

For me, the album is an all-consuming novel with each song representing another chapter in the gloomy, brave, vulnerable, strong, confident and subjected story. Curling up before the fire, we open the book to Chapter VIII – ‘She’s Not Good For Me’. Following the upbeat, laidback, heart-warming ‘Shoulder’, ‘She’s Not Good For Me’ moves from the comfortable hug of friendship to a moment of vulnerable isolation. Interestingly, while one would imagine this step to be a fall in the mire of despair, there is empowering hope in the darkness. Keller explains:

“Recovery from a mental health struggle is not at all linear and coming to terms with that is hard. I still have triggers and tough moments, but I have better tools and a new perspective to deal with them in a compassionate way…”

Joined by producer Domini Romano, with his magical production fingers, ‘She’s Not Good For Me’ is one of the stronger singles interweaving naïve innocence and sophisticated elegance while retaining the line between the two – I told you he was magic! Joined by guitarist Jory Avner, ‘She’s Not Good For Me’ is flooded with an acoustic guitar-driven tone, accentuated by Keller’s soothing vocals.

A testament to healing, the smooth, gentle, tender folk tune calms your soul allowing you to breathe freely. If this is the final track, then the book ends on a high note; if it isn’t, I am certain Keller’s next single will be another masterpiece.
