Legna Hernandez – Tiana (2024)

Take a dash of Paramore with a dab of Halsey and a smidge of Avril Lavigne, and you have Legna Hernandez. Hailing from Mexico, singer-songwriter Hernandez is one of the country’s most established public figures with millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram. In 2023, she chose to embrace a musical career – something she always wanted to do but did not quite decide to pursue. This is our introduction to Hernandez but considering her strong similarity to Paramore and the comfort of her music, it seems we have known her all our lives.

Over the past year, Love Ghost’s frontman Finnegan Bell has spent time in Mexico collaborating with Mexican artists in various genres, and Legna Hernandez brings spice to the new pop-punk single ‘Tiana’. Following her cover of Floricienta’s ‘Mi Vestido Azul’, ‘Tiana’ is Hernandez’s first original release in 2024 and sees an evolution in her sound. Still filled with pop-punk goodness, its ferocious upbeat nature grabs your heart and spins you about; however, a greater leaning toward alternative rock with hints of hyper-pop exists in the tune.

If Fall Out Boy were to collaborate with Paramore, ‘Tiana’ is potentially what it would sound like. Brash and bold with a curt abruptness clipped in the powerful melody, ‘Tiana’ keeps you on your toes. Yet, while the pair keep you aware of the hard-hitting pop-punk, a soothing lingers beneath in a heavier rock tone. The elegant melding of genres is only surpassed by the beautiful intertwining of vocals. Hernandez’s voice has a sharp sprightliness to it, and this complements the richness and warmth of Bell’s dulcet tones.

A light-hearted, playful melody to have you jumping about and twirling in a blissful spiral of music, ‘Tiana’ is the fun song you sing along to; however, a deeper meaning whirls about the joyous sounds. In two-and-a-half minutes, Legna Hernandez tackles the intricacies of relationships “realising the mistakes made during a relationship and the memories that come to mind when listening to a song that reminds you of that person”. The interplay of male and female vocals perfectly captures the theme’s core, and the use of English and Spanish lyrics adds an extra oomph to ‘Tiana’.

In addition to the single, Legna Hernandez released an official music video for ‘Tiana’. The video can be viewed below or on her YouTube channel.
