Dorian Shroom – Carved In Stone (2024)

Dorian Shroom, the Greek band based in London came up with a strong, guitar-driven album ‘Nothing Is Sacred’ back in 2022 and then suddenly went quiet until now coming up with a fresh single titled ‘Carved In Stone.’ In their own words, it turns out that it was “no squabble within the band nor artist block, but the usual life stuff like changing location, serving the military, or changing the day job” that resulted in the two-year hiatus. Now the band seems to be back, with their take on Queen goes guitar prog with this single. A pretty good sound all around, keeping in mind that the song was after all mixed in one of the band’s members’ bedrooms!

It turns out the song is actually something from their Greek background – the myth of Prometheus. As the band notes, “We kind of needed to follow the internal path of this hero during the moments when he made the ultimate judgment call: steal the fire from the Gods.” Some hefty stuff that would fall on its face if the band didn’t back it up with some uptempo, exchanges between the excellent guitar work and the rhythm section (Andreas Athanasiadis and Giorgos Melitos) that easily keeps up both with the guitars of Kostas “The Ghoul” Dimakis and Giorgos Tsompanidis, as well as the vocals of Chris Diamantis.

The release of ‘Carved In Stone’ is not just a sign that this heavy prog band is back in the saddle, but that there are more interesting things to come up from these guys, particularly for all the prog rock fans around.

In addition to the single, Dorian Shroom released an official lyric video for ‘Carved In Stone’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube Channel.
