Alexa Lash – Fuck That Noise (2024)
Intimate, soulful, reflective and oozing poetic passion, singer-songwriter Alexa Lash uses her natural storytelling skills to resonate with audiences across the globe. Her lyrics are moving and her melodies magical, and it all comes together in heartwarming kicks of folk and licks of pop. From her debut single ‘Go Wrong’, released in 2019, the US-based musician has turned heads far beyond her Miami borders soothing listeners from France to Germany, Australia to the UK. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Fuck That Noise’.
One half of a double-sided single, ‘Fuck That Noise’ both retain Lash’s off-kilter vocals and soothing tune; however, it also showcases an evolution in Lash’s style. With hints of Lizzie McAlpine and Sandi Thom, ‘Fuck That Noise’ has a contemporary flow in the melody; yet the single holds to the intimacy of old-school artists like Tracy Chapman and Janis Ian. I might compare Lash’s vocals to Norah Jones with a shimmer of Florence Welch, but it wouldn’t be fair to any of them. Instead, the power and boldness mixed with a tender endearing offer a sound that is Alexa Lash and nothing else.
Penned as an “honest anthem for the anxious woman” living in a chaotic reality, ‘Fuck That Noise’ is an acoustic exposition of the fragility, vulnerability and frustration of, well, just existing in the 21st century. Penned as a poem to society and delivered as a conversation, listening to ‘Fuck That Noise’ has an empowering sensation – someone is finally standing up and letting loose all the angst lingering beneath a seemingly smiling face. As I mentioned, there is a tribute to the intimacy of Tracy Chapman as Lash’s ‘Fuck That Noise’ proves the constant despair and exhaustion people face is timeless.
Simplistic and minimalistic, ‘Fuck That Noise’ layers Lash’s vocals atop an acoustic guitar with barebones quality. Interestingly, despite the song’s stark soundscape, a kaleidoscopic depth and palpable weight hang in the tune. In her own way, Alexa Lash immediately reached into my soul with ‘Fuck That Noise’ and I felt my emotions heard even though she was the one singing.
