Blindness & Light – We All Lose (2024)

Inspired by life in its totally, both the gritty dark stuff and the bright optimistic things, Blindness & Light navigate reality with moving melodies. We were introduced to Blindness & Light in 2022 with their single ‘Another Day’ immersing ourselves in old-school grunge; and throughout 2023, the group pushed us through slicks of post-punk, indie-rock and grunge. Created by a kaleidoscopic collective of like-minded musicians with a passion for music, listening to Blindness & Light is like being caught in a rush of pure energy whipping you about at breakneck speed. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘We All Lose’.

Following the well-received singles ‘The First Light Of Day’, and ‘My Rolex Is Better Than Yours’, Blindness & Light enter 2024 with ‘We All Lose’. In 2023, the collective showcased versatility and innovation shifting from the post-punk ‘The First Light Of Day’ to an obscure combination of indie-rock/grunge layered with hip-hop style vocals in ‘My Rolex Is Better Than Yours’. The group added another colour to their sonic palette with the indie-pop ‘We All Lose’.

Co-produced by singer-songwriter Colin M Potter and former producer Tony Denmade, ‘We All Lose’ is the first Blindness & Light track featuring Potter exclusively. Inspired by bands like Joy Division and The Smiths, a tinge of 80s post-punk is evident in the majority of Blindness & Light’s discography, as is the case with ‘We All Lose’. From brooding guitars to melancholy vocals, ‘We All Lose’ is a wave of Joy Division flooding our ears with a strong inkling of Ian Curtis in Potter’s vocals. Yet, while a comparison lies with the iconic Joy Division, the intimacy and emotional intensity of ‘We All Lose’ hints at a unique Blindness & Light style.

The melody is intriguing, but it is the lyricism that brings the heavier theme to the surface. Potter explains:

“’We All Lose’ is about people that end up in a relationship with someone who hides their true dark right-wing views. These eventually surface and end the relationship like a light being switched off…”
