Bunny Alex – Soft Spot (2024)

From France and Australia to the UK and Canada, singer-songwriter Bunny Alex ensnares one’s senses with her enchanting pop styling. Romantic and sincere, the German-Filipino artist delicately explores the fragility of humanity, especially when it comes to love. While Bunny Alex is already making a name for herself with energetic performances and moving songs, this is our introduction to the UK-based musician. Come with us as we delve into her recent release ‘Soft Spot’.

Finding a line between Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey with hints of Ariana Grande flitting across her vocals, Bunny Alex executes the sugary sweetness of pop; however, her songs have a profoundness exceeding the whimsical mainstream tunes. Personal narratives add an originality to her music resonating with audiences of all ages. ‘Soft Spot’ captures the heartfelt tenderness of that “honeymoon phase” of a relationship but with an intricate sensibility of the “well, now this is serious” side of romance. She explains:

“Those early-stage feelings when everything starts to make sense and there’s no doubt that they’re something special… that’s what this song is about.”

Following her upbeat singles ‘Easy Game’ and ‘Habits’, ‘Soft Spot’ is filled with a dreamier haze of sound. Lost in a kaleidoscopic sonic hurricane, the synth-driven melody wraps about you in a warm haze. Interestingly, while you find yourself caught in a spiral of hazy noise, Bunny Alex’s gentle vocals embrace you in a comfortable hug. Her dulcet tones tinged with a bright-eyed hopefulness lift you into the eye of the storm before letting the music engulf you once again.

Listening to ‘Soft Spot’, you can hear the sophistication in its arrangement; the shining synths layered with Bunny Alex’s moving voice. Yet, despite this mature sophistication, a surge of vulnerability leaps forth with raw, rugged innocence. Confident in her emotions but fragile with naivety, ‘Soft Spot’ has a hidden complexity in its moving melody.

Comfortable but chaotic. Charming but vulnerable. Engagingly enthusiastic but with a hidden intensity. Bunny Alex hits everything with her new single ‘Soft Spot’. As I mentioned, this is my introduction to Bunny Alex but if ‘Soft Spot’ is anything to go by, I am eager to hear more.
