Miles East – Lucky To Be Here Tonight (2024)

Despite having more than a decade of experience in the music industry, veteran singer-songwriter Miles East brings a refreshing new sound to our ears. We were introduced to East last year with his single ‘Better Than Here’ – his first release since 2016. Charming, moving and a real toe-tapper, the intimacy and sophistication of ‘Better Than Here’ set a precedent for his signature style. Many musicians fail to meet the expectations of their debut with a sophomore single; however, his poetic flair and complex intricacy make Miles East an incomparable, insatiable artist exceeding any expectations.

Critically acclaimed and featured on international publications, playlists and radio stations, US-based East enchanted audiences with ‘Better Than Here’ and left us waiting in anticipation for his new song. Following ‘Better Than Here’, Miles East enters 2024 with the sophomore single ‘Lucky To Be Here Tonight’. Taken from his upcoming album Between Lightning and Thunder, set for release in June 2024, ‘Lucky To Be Here’ is a soulful expression of resilience, hope and optimism. He explains:

“’Lucky To Be Here Tonight’ honours the places and people in our lives who, in defiance of circumstance, still make it a blessing to live in a world seemingly falling down around us.”

Produced with renowned artist and producer Blake Morgan, Between Lightning and Thunder traipses the realm of Orwellian and Huxley dystopia with a hopeful smile lingering across our faces. A journey of inner turmoil, darkness, light and life, Between Lightning and Thunder is an ebb and flow of life as we know it. ‘Lucky To Be Here Tonight’ offers a taste of the new album in its smooth indie-pop sound fluttering between optimistic joviality and utter indifference.

Similar to ‘Better Than Here’, Miles East taps into his inner Paul McCartney weaving profound meaning in a mellifluous melody. Yet, unlike ‘Better Than Here’ which has a contemporary rock tinge to its folk-rock tone, ‘Lucky To Be Here Tonight’ is a nostalgic whisper to old-school Beatles power-pop. The whimsical attitude is elevated by wistful guitars, rich drums and East’s tender vocals holding you close in heart-warming sincerity.

So, what is my overall opinion of ‘Lucky To Be Here Tonight’? East sings of being lucky to make it through the day and night surrounded by love and joy; for me, the luck is East’s new single surrounding me with love and joy.
