Wild Horse – Wednesday Night Distractions (2024)

Known for their deeper insight into human complexity and existential issues, indie-pop trio Wild Horse bring a profound thoughtfulness to their infectious melodies. With a role of rigorous touring, recording and releasing music, Wild Horse are establishing themselves as one of the most hard-working bands about; tenacious if you will. Ending 2023 with a bang, Jack Baldwin, Henry Baldwin and Ed Barnes emerge into the light of 2024 like a bright, fiery, shining force. The latest addition to their discography is ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’.

Following the well-received singles ‘Attraction’ and ‘Do You Wanna Talk’, Wild Horse weaves elements of funk with Britpop and indie-rock. Now, I’m not saying there is a complete evolution with ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’ as the lads show versatility in their sound throughout their repertoire; however, the new single brings a more mature, sophisticated flair of funk to our ears. Contemporary with refreshing beats but simultaneously a retro-funk meets soul groove has everyone swaying along.

Recorded with long-time producer Matt Leppanen at The Animal Farm Studio in London, ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’ swirls pounding drums with powerful guitars in a haze of giddy, um, distraction. Jack Baldwin’s rich vocals once again pour across the melody with ease layering a sugar-coated sublimeness over the tasty melody. Funk is the name of the game with ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’ but the scorching guitar solo adds a harder rock edge to its mellifluous flow.

Capturing the joviality, jocularity and general hyped-up insanity of a crazy night out, Wild Horse bring the party to your house. Although, mentions of speed dials and having the dude tripping might hint at a little more than a party. Either way, the excitement and electricity bursting from ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’ is a key to freedom, escapism and the little bit of stomach-churning joy bursting through your heart that people need in a time of dismal darkness. As with all of their singles, the lads ensnare your senses with ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’.
