A Chat with The Magenta (12.12.23)
Born from a need for creative expression in youthful disillusion, the blues-rock group The Magenta takes us on a journey through life with their music. We speak with The Magenta about their mini-album May Cause Addiction, AI in the music industry, future plans and more.
OSR: Let’s jump straight in: you are about to release your debut album May Cause Addiction. What can you tell us about it? Is there a theme or backstory?
The Magenta: Weeelll, one thing we have to tell you for sure is that you have to listen to it responsibly cause…. It May Cause Addiction. 🤣 There is no backstory. Whatever it is, is here and now. In front of you. The more you interact with us the more you get to know.
OSR: What were the best and worst things about creating May Cause Addiction?
The Magenta: Tricky question… Well as Mark Manson says, the state of constant happiness and joy does not exist. Life is a trouble-solving process. So you have to choose to solve problems that you enjoy solving. With this point of view, we enjoyed the most the problems we had to solve to create May Cause Addiction. 😁
OSR: What inspires you to make music?
The Magenta: Pain… Deep pain and the feeling of abandonment.
OSR: What do you hope people will take from the album?
The Magenta: Hope, love, and care. They can rely on us. We are here. 😎
OSR: What do you take from the album?
The Magenta: We take exactly what we give – hope, love and care. We state our presence, we feel alive, important and vital through our music.
OSR: If you could change one thing about May Cause Addiction, what would it be and why?
The Magenta: We would record it 10 years earlier. But you know, life is life we don’t always have the upper hand. To be honest we never have it. We just compromise… but here we are fellows.
OSR: What do you think makes you unique as an artist?
The Magenta: Mmmmmm… Well… It’s the clarity, the insightfulness and the intensity we inject in our music.
OSR: What’s something that you find difficult, but you think should be easy?
The Magenta: Playing gigs and participating in big festivals. You know in Greece the rock scene is very limited. So, to all promoters out there, book us a gig and we won’t let you down. You will see something that you never had before. And then… you may get addicted to us. 😁
OSR: What are your thoughts on AI in the entertainment industry? Is it a good or bad thing?
The Magenta: Well for us business and expression are two different things. So in terms of industry, it is a hell of a great tool. Saves you a lot of time, money and effort. Regarding expression. We are never going to give up on strumming our guitars, kicking our snares and screaming the hell out of us on the microphone. We do it first for ourselves. It is vital for us.
OSR: What can we expect from The Magenta in the future?
The Magenta: To be the biggest and cutest band in the world. 😁😂
