Iridesense – Take Some Action (2023)

Skip back to the 90s with me. The days of pre-Hannah Montana Nickelodeon, VH1’s ‘Pop-Up Video’, MTV when they played music videos, the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, floppy hair and chokers…those were the days. Another amazing sensation to emerge from the 90s is the US-based band Iridesense. With features in Pimp My Ride, Drake & Josh, Room Raiders and most recently the film Finding Sandler, Iridesense is turning heads left, right and centre.

Formed in 1993, the brother and sister-led foursome have been honing their sound, building a following, and generally being fantastic for 30 years. I mean, that’s a while, but like a fine wine, Iridesense gets better with age. From their debut album Cool Dream Tomorrow to 2008’s A Trip Called Life, 2013’s Secret Constellation, and well-received singles ‘History In The Making’, ‘Mind Control Society’ and ‘Gasoline’, Iridesense has reached audiences and won hearts across the globe. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Take Some Action’.

Curators, radio stations, playlists, regular discoverers of new bands, many have fallen under the spell of Iridesense; however, this is my introduction to the group. Following their 2022 single ‘The Battle’, ‘Take Some Action’ is a drag back to the pop-rock sound of the 1990s and early 2000s. Filled with an explosive blast of sound from the first chord to the end, ‘Take Some Action’ is a rock rollercoaster without any real dips – just higher and higher and higher letting you fall only at the end. Even then, Tara Drouin’s vocals seem to carry you with a comfortable “there you go, now run off and play with your friends” vibe.

Penned to break you “out of complacency” and to take action in your life regardless of whether it’s a new relationship, a new job, moving to a new country, or anything that really needs you to go for it. For me, the melody with Tara Drouin’s voice kicks your butt into gear. Rick Eberle (vocals and guitar) matches Tara’s bass while Rob Viccari brings scorching guitars to a pounding crash of Rich Drouin’s drums – a pop-rock sound impossible to ignore. Not just toe-tapping, Iridesense captivates your body and soul with the fist-pumping, foot-stomping, “twirl about in a crazy haze of kaleidoscopic sound” insanity and all to the cause of getting you up to take some action in your short time on Earth.
