Madelyn – Nowhere Quite Like Home (2023)

From the USA to Australia, the UK to Germany, the Caribbean and Russia, singer-songwriter Madelyn is reaching audiences far beyond her UK borders. It all began in 2017 when a student studying Music at Bristol University decided to release original tracks on Soundcloud. This led to collaborations with producers, gigs at notable London music venues, strong support from radio stations, music publications and even placements on official Spotify playlists New Music Friday UK and New Pop UK. Today, she hits our ears and turns our heads with her new single ‘Nowhere Quite Like Home’.

Described as energetic, insanely good and unique, South London-based Madelyn is making her mark in the UK alternative pop scene. Following her well-received 2022 singles ‘If I Could Be Anything’ and ‘The Ceiling Is Falling’, ‘Nowhere Quite Like Home’ brings a subdued hush to an ethereal pop sound. Constantly evolving, the new track brings further sophistication in its poppy presentation moving on from energetic, almost electric ‘If I Could Be Anything’ and upbeat ‘The Ceiling Is Falling’. A signature pop thread flows through Madelyn’s songs but, for me at least, ‘Nowhere Quite Like Home’ has an elegant maturity in its demure tone.

Softer, smoother and gentler on the ears, Madelyn calmly places you in the palm of her hand as you walk through hazy sonic forests. Twinkling synth overtones match acoustic guitar giving a kaleidoscopic fairy-like feel to the journey which is only enhanced by Madelyn’s mystical vocals. Laidback, light-hearted and magical, ‘Nowhere Quite Like Home’ is tipped with a harmonious push-and-pull of serene tranquillity and bubbly joviality.

One aspect I find interesting about Madelyn is her extraordinary capability of capturing the heart of the song’s meaning in its melody. When it comes to ‘Nowhere Quite Like Home’, the concept of contentment, familiarity and acceptance oozes from the tender tune. Madelyn shares that ‘Nowhere Quite Like Home’ is “…an ethereal pop track about trying and failing to outrun yourself but learning to love the familiarity.”

Taken off her upcoming debut EP, Madelyn captures our hearts and ensnares our senses with the delicate single ‘Nowhere Quite Like Home’.
