heavy on the heart. – Catch Me If I Fall (2023)

Inspired by life in its entirety, US-based group heavy on the heart. capture the core of humanity in intricate but forceful melodies. When we left the quartet, they explored the fragility and complexity of relationships tackling “two individuals who can’t deny the kinetic connection but who have yet to act upon it”; now, they turn their heads in an introspective clash of selves in ‘Catch Me If I Fall’.

Influenced by the likes of Paramore, Third Eye Blind, Taking Back Sunday, Foo Fighters and No Doubt, Nikki Brady (vocals), Costas Themistocleous (guitar), Andrew Nicolae (bass) and Nick Kolokathis (drums) have a hard-hitting rock sound with rambunctious pop-punk flairs. Following ‘Not Now, Love’, heavy on the heart. retain their pop-punk brashness in ‘Catch Me If I Fall’; however, a heavier pound lingers across the punchy Paramore sound.

Drawing from personal experiences, ‘Catch Me If I Fall’ is a conversation between Brady’s present and younger self. After reading a ten-year-old diary, Brady discovered the feelings of hopelessness and vulnerability she felt; however, she also realised that her making it a decade later proves that she made it through the rain. She explains:

“One night, I just couldn’t get to sleep, and I sat on the couch in my living room and just started reading a 10-year-old journal. It dawned on me that there was a time a decade earlier that I didn’t think I would survive it; that all hope was lost. It served as a reminder to myself that I can, and I will see beauty in the darkness because the light will come out. ‘Catch Me If I Fall’ is me talking to my younger self and my younger self talks back with both reminding each other you will be okay.”

Produced at Sound Acres Recording Studio with Gary Cioni, ‘Catch Me If I Fall’ is an almost three-minute rush of pounding drums and crashing guitars filled with a heavy bass and bound together with Brady’s bold vocals. Well-layered and textured, ‘Catch Me If I Fall’ is sophisticated with raw elegance; however, it also has a gruff bite cutting to the bone with profound intensity. Interestingly, while the single has a melancholic depth of despair, the bouncing insanity pushes through a sense of positivity.
