Bvrden – Indigo (2023)

Life can be intricate and complex, but music can be an emotional transmission to find meaning, insight and value in the complexity. UK-based duo Bvrden tap into this profound sense of self with their energetic rock sounds placing us in an inspiring cathartic bubble. When we last left Bvrden they were exploring the impact of solitude on people. This time, they sweep senses of empowerment our way in a kaleidoscopic hurricane of sound. Come with us as we delve into the hurricane called ‘Indigo’.

Tipping their hat at the alternative rock sounds of the 90s and 2000s, ‘Indigo’ bears a nostalgic whiff of Thrice – a shift from the fluttering of The Fratellis in ‘Moonlight’. Pounding drums meld with scorching guitars building a high-paced, frenzied melody; however, Bvrden seem to shift from upbeat insanity to smoother tones throughout the song. Heavy rock rhythms immediately capture listeners from the outset with a mellifluous wave of sound. Then the drums gather speed, the guitars draw breath blasting out in a ferocious sonic flood in the catchy choruses. The powerful drumbeat rages along with a searing guitar solo building up to an abrupt end that leaves you desperately wanting more.

One aspect I find intriguing about ‘Indigo’ is the varying from electronic to organic instrumentation. Acoustic guitars lay the structure, but it is the electronic bass and guitars that tip the scale to a harder, heavier tone. Sophisticated production harmonically weaves the organic with electric, as well as weaving gruff vocals into the sonic tapestry giving all elements due attention.

The fast-paced melody can inspire with its heady ambience, but it is the profound lyricism that gives you a shove of introspective value. Touching on hopefulness and empowerment, ‘Indigo’ is “about fighting for one’s own purpose and finding the strength to build the desired path while not being led off course by judgement and fears of others”. In this rambunctious single, Bvrden expresses the burning heart pushing to reach the bright light of a meaningful life.
