bigbaldben – Disjointed (2023)

Beginning his musical endeavours in the mid-90s as lead singer for post-grunge band Cesspool, bigbaldben was sharing an adrenaline-filled sound with the masses. He continued writing and recording demos until the early 2000s before starting a family with his wife. Now, bigbaldben is back bigger and badder than ever. Using his deep roots in heavy music, the US-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter has something unique that could just blow your mind – metaphorical mind-blowing of course.

Despite this solo project being the first from bigbaldben since he stepped out of the music scene 20 years ago, he is quickly garnering an international following. With coverage on Head Bangers News, IGGY Magazine, Rock Era Magazine, The Metal Asylum and Sinusoidal Music, his music is reaching far beyond his US borders. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Disjointed’.

On the heels of his singles ‘Welded Glass’, ‘Searchlight’, ‘Masterclass’ and ‘Tired of Dying’, ‘Disjointed’ is bigbaldben’s fifth release in 2023 (and his fifth as a solo artist). As with his previous material, ‘Disjointed’ is a step back in time to the metal sounds of the 1990s. Not filled with as much metal harshness as ‘Tired of Dying’, ‘Disjointed’ has a certain smoothness in the melody with injections of hard rock guitars bursting through the chorus. Staying true to his heavy rock/metal roots, one can hear a heaviness in the arrangement; however, an intimacy exists in the tune.

Finding a delicate line between Linkin Park and Alice In Chains, ‘Disjointed’ is brash and powerful but with a vulnerable underbelly. bigbaldben’s vocals come through with a tinge of heavy metal; however, there is a contrasting fragility slithering in his voice. This is particularly interesting as it so perfectly aligns with the theme of frustration and inner turmoil. A sense of drowning yet trying to stand up to face reality in a hopeful way.

“My new song ‘Disjointed’ is about sometimes feeling like your own worst enemy and the frustration of trying to get a handle on who you are and what you want out of life…” – bigbaldben on ‘Disjointed’
