Bad Ass Beauty – Blast Off (2023)

Exactly what it says on the tin, singer-songwriter Bad Ass Beauty is a badass beauty sharing her sound with the masses. Taking on toxic masculinity, sexual harassment and all the challenging discriminatory stuff people try to avoid, LaQuinta Price stands forward in her solo project to make a difference in today’s world. While Prince has a diverse background in music, her debut single as Bad Ass Beauty was released only a few months ago. Since then, she has turned heads far beyond her US borders with grace and ease. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Blast Off’.

The fourth single from this talented musician, Prince follows her well-received track ‘Broken’ with ‘Blast Off’. Retaining her hard rock sound, ‘Blast Off’ has a heaviness to the hard-hitting melody; however, as with ‘Broken’ there is a leaning toward melodic metal in the song. Reminding me of the powerful rocker Lzzy Hale, there is a forcefulness in both vocals and melody. Yet, simultaneously, a slant toward Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin slithers through Prince’s vocal execution. With that “punch in the guts” metal tone, ‘Blast Off’ is a true rock representation of powerful females in music. Then again, the old-school soul attitude hits you between the eyes in its subtle way.

Prince is a representation of female empowerment in the modern-day world. Her new single emphasises her boldness but with the message of relaxing in our stressful reality. When speaking of ‘Blast Off’, Prince explains “this is a straight-forward let your hair down, let your ass hang all the way out, relax, live your life and let all the problems go for the moment… Life is stressful enough. Let that shit go for a while and act a damn fool”.

Finding the line between old-school soul badass-ness and contemporary hard rock badass-ness, Prince subtly brings together Chaka Khan and Lzzy Hale in one inimitable melody.
