THE HYBRIS – The Game Of Cat And Mouse (2023)

Step aside, Superman. Hold your horses, Batman. Stop dead in your tracks, Thor. A new band of superheroes is here to take on the forces of evil in modern-day society. Ringo Rabbit, Beanie Bison and Malcolm Mandrill come together to form THE HYBRIS! Far more entertaining than a simple removal of spectacles to bring their awesomeness to the fore – seriously, how did anyone not recognise Superman – THE HYBRIS slather audiences with their powerful music in an elegant, effortless and commanding way. Prepare for their melodies and the latest addition to their repertoire, ‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’.

On the heels of their well-received track ‘Celebrate The Good Times’, THE HYBRIS hit people between the eyes with ‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’. Bringing together the brashness of punk with the heaviness of hard rock and a sliver of metal, the new single twirls you about in a sonic haze of confusion. Interestingly, just as the lads traipse from one style to the other, a contemporary pop-punk tone enhances the intensity of the already intense ‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’.

In previous releases, I have compared THE HYBRIS to old-school My Chemical Romance, Joy Division and Billy Talent; however, this new single sees them step out of these comparisons building a sound that is THE HYBRIS and nothing else. Foot-stomping, hand-pumping and breath-taking, ‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’ sends a rush of blood to the head leaving you dizzy but totally loving it.

Gritty, grimy and hard-hitting, ‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’ is the ideal soundtrack to the trio fighting wickedness in today’s reality. Unafraid to step on toes, THE HYBRIS explain that “it’s a track about social disparity and injustice, one of the greatest and ever-growing evils of our time…” Tackling the cat and empowering the mouse, the band’s new single can uplift crowds and have you shouting for equality.
