Harmony Dreamers – Spinning Round The Sun (2022)

Led by musician Byron Lee Scott, Harmony Dreamers is a conglomeration of dreamers who express a desire for harmony through their music. Drawing together the skills of 20 international musicians, Harmony Dreamers has been described as a “never-before-seen work of art” (Honk Magazine). While this is my introduction to Harmony Dreamers, the group has been turning heads across the globe building a fanbase among critics and listeners alike. Featured by Lost In The Nordics, R+ and Broadway World to name a few, this talented bunch bring a sound unlike any other sound to the masses. Come with us as we delve into their music.

Taken from their debut album I Come From Earth, ‘Spinning Round The Sun’ is a trilogy of songs exploring “the wonder of life on Earth and the love the Earth receives from the Sun…” Part one of these tracks, the one we are looking at today, is a synth-heavy single harmonically fusing drums, percussion and a myriad of electronic sounds into one futuristic haze of music.

Performed almost entirely by Byron Lee Scott, ‘Spinning Round The Sun’ creates a wistful ambience within a cinematic soundscape. The drumming of Larry Dragland brings a pounding quality to the melody; however, the incorporation of Anna V’s voice adds a tinkling, optimistic tone.

Brash and bold with electronic sensibilities, ‘Spinning Round The Sun’ could easily be described as electropop. Yet, while there are strong pop vibes floating from the song, the haunting twinkle of dulcet vocals brings a heavier rock slant. Touching on the connections between space, love and the human experience, this vivid diversity encapsulates the song’s warm complexity.
