Katie Belle – The Best You’ll Ever Have (2023)

In an interview with B-Sides & Badlands, singer-songwriter Katie Belle described her decision to pursue music as “a gradual lightbulb moment…the more I got on stage and in front of different crowds, the more I wanted to do it…” – and we are so glad she got up and did it. With a reputation for energetic performances and breathtaking melodies, Belle is an award-winning artist with the official video for her single ‘Daughter’ receiving ‘Music Video of the Year’ at the Josie Music Awards. Further achievements include an induction into The Recording Academy in 2022, features in Rolling Stone, Headliner Magazine and Unclear Magazine, as well as gaining support from the likes of Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. I’m not so sure if the last point is an achievement, but catching the eye of Katy Perry deserves a mention.

Following her well-received single ‘Next Ex’, Belle releases her new single ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’. Co-written, recorded and produced with Fabio Campedelli, ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’ retains Belle’s hypnotic electropop sound; however, there is a far more energetic feeling as compared to ‘Next Ex’. Once again, an elegance flows through the toe-tapping melody with the synth-driven arrangement. The thing is, while there is a sense of soothing within the song, listeners can feel raw electricity sparking in ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’.

The melody can hold its own finding the line between mellifluous soothing and sparking energy, but it is Belle’s alluring vocals that really capture my attention. Traipsing across the composition, Belle’s unique voice tinges the song with a flowing gentleness and a bold feistiness. A sensuality escapes from her husky vocals making ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’ soul-stirring and daunting.

Bouncy and evocative, there is a chilled-out charm to ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’. Yet, despite the bounce, Belle sends us a profound and thought-provoking track. Touching on difficult relationships, Belle and Campedelli use dark lyricism to grapple with the idea of “resorting to unorthodox methods to gain one’s attention; namely breaking up”. In my opinion, if I had broken up with Katie Belle, ‘The Best You’ll Ever Have’ would make me reconsider my actions.
