Love Ghost – Jealousy (2023)

From Rolling Stone to Alternative Press, FLAUNT, Rock Era Magazine, American Songwriter, Sinusoidal Music and Nexus Music Blog (and this doesn’t even include the playlists and radio play), US-based rock group Love Ghost is quickly building a reputation as a sonic superstar. Over the past three years, Love Ghost amazed audiences with their enthusiastic performances touring far beyond their North American borders to South America, Mexico, and Europe. Yet, it is not only their dynamic stage presence that brings audiences to their knees – oh no, they are as intriguing in the studio as they are on a festival stage. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Jealousy’.

Following the remix version of their single ‘Dirty Pixx’, Love Ghost adopt a pop-punk meets alternative rock sound with ‘Jealousy’. Tinged with slivers of grunge and emo-rock, this new single reminds me of My Chemical Romance with leanings toward Linkin Park. Yet, while these comparisons can be made, there is a signature style to Love Ghost with bold guitars, drums and Finnegan Bell’s distinctive vocals. If you liked Love Ghost before, ‘Jealousy’ is sure to have you loving them with the intoxicating melody.

Just as the melody can hold its own, Love Ghost show depth and innovation in the lyricism as well as instrumentation. A hard-hitting mash of guitars and drums, ‘Jealousy’ hits you between the eyes with its harmonic tune. The thing is, just as the melody is powerful, so is the profound lyricism. An alternative grunge song, there is a poignancy hidden beneath the crashing of music bringing intimacy, intensity and vulnerability to the fore. Just as Love Ghost’s previous releases navigate feelings of inner turmoil, anxiety and angst, ‘Jealousy’ is a passionate proclamation of rejection, loneliness and being lied to.

“I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve and being this passionate can hurt at times. I can be a people-pleaser for people that don’t care as much about me, and I’m trying to get out of that unhealthy habit. I had recently been betrayed and a lot of old insecurities and PTSD was brought up because of that. I wrote the song ‘Jealousy’ to…cope with what I was going through but also to allow people to feel like they weren’t alone with what they’re going through…I hope this song acts as a mental bandage for them in some way.” -Finnegan Bell on ‘Jealousy’

In addition to the single, Love Ghost released an official music video for ‘Jealousy’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube Channel:
