THE HYBRIS – Celebrate The Good Times (2023)

With a defiant plan to save the world from arrogance, ignorance, exaggerated self-pride and egotistical ambition, THE HYRBIS use music to make a difference in this forsaken reality. Embarking on their mission to rescue us from our indifference, Ringo Rabbit, Beanie Bison and Malcolm Mandrill are sonic superheroes lifting us out of tragic oblivion in one fell swoop. From Music For All to Sinusoidal Music, Lost In The Manor, Rock Culture and numerous notable publications, THE HYBRIS reaches audiences on an international scale. Turning heads once again, they touch our souls with their new single ‘Celebrate The Good Times’.

Hot on the heels of their well-received single ‘Imposter Syndrome’, THE HYBRIS move from the angst we feel by “not being good enough” to the arrogance of the upper class in ‘Celebrate The Good Times’. The lads explain that ‘Celebrate The Good Times’ “is an ironic statement against the ignorance and immoderateness of the privileged…” Unfortunately, we continue to have a class system in today’s society defining what we can and can’t say, what we are deserving of, and how things are to be run. As with their other material, THE HYBRIS touch on this provocative theme with a “cheerful electropunk garb; otherwise, another addition to our rock, indie, punk and pop mix.”

As with ‘Imposter Syndrome’, THE HYBRIS uses pounding drums and dynamic guitars to create a heavy, hard-hitting punk-inspired base in ‘Celebrate The Good Times’. Interestingly enough, as with bands like Joy Division, a distortion exists in the guitar-soaked melody offering a slightly disconcerting discomfort in the song. Yet, despite this uncertain chaos flowing through your ears, there is a warm embrace in the richness of THE HYBRIS’ tone.

Chaotic but soothing, fast and fierce but smooth, bold and powerful but with a tender vulnerability floating beneath, ‘Celebrate The Good Times’ is the anthemic roar of “yeah, that’s what’s happening but it won’t last forever” from the less privileged. A fell swoop in an ironic song THE HYBRIS connects with audiences, sharing frustration and walking away with a cheeky grin.
