Morning Trips – An Imaginary Life (2023)

From effervescent dream-pop to frenzied punk, US-based Morning Trips draw inspiration from a wide sonic palette. Described as “progressive pop”, this talented quartet have a strong awareness of indie-pop in their music, yet still brings more to the table. Featured in Rising Artists Blog, Indie Dock Music Blog, Sinusoidal Music, We Write About Music, Find No Enemy, Thoughts Words Action, and various other press, Morning Trips are reaching far beyond their North American borders. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘An Imaginary Life’.

Following the single ‘Where Is Your Out?’, Morning Trips moves from an old-school post-punk sound to a contemporary indie-pop meets dream-pop sound in ‘An Imaginary Life’. The first release from Morning Trips in 2023, the new single highlights an evolution in their music with greater sophistication and elegance in the instrumentation. Interestingly enough, while the arrangement has a wistful ambience, a raw energy slices through the melody bringing a tinge of indie-rock to the tune. Leaning toward the sounds of the 90s, ‘An Imaginary Life’ exudes an old-school indie-pop style but a contemporary rock sound adds edginess to the track.

Soft, soothing and filled with sentimental introspection, ‘An Imaginary Life’ tosses you into a sonic whirlpool capturing your soul in a twirling kaleidoscopic haziness. The band share that an acoustic kit was used when recording ‘An Imaginary Life’ which might account for Morning Trips finding the delicate balance between organic and synthetic in the new release. Paving the way for their debut EP (set for release in Spring 2023), ‘An Imaginary Life’ showcases Morning Trips’ diversity, versatility and innovation as artists.
