Bryan Yurcan – Songs For Eclectic Weirdos (2023)

Inspired by life in its entirety, US-based singer-songwriter Bryan Yurcan makes music that is “influenced by nature and making insightful observations about everyday occurrences…” Referring to his music as “garage folk”, this veteran musician has been sharing his heartfelt melodies with audiences for over 25 years. Known for his reflective tunes and engaging presence, Yurcan is garnering a loyal following amongst listeners. In fact, his features on various blogs and playlists have him reaching audiences on a global scale. The latest addition to Yurcan’s discography is his EP Songs For Eclectic Weirdos.

Following his 2022 single ‘Meat and Wheat’, Songs For Eclectic Weirdos sees Yurcan blasting onto the scene and welcoming in the new year with style. A four-track release, he blends elements of folk with indie-rock and alternative rock undertones. Acoustic-inspired Songs For Eclectic Weirdos can be considered a simplistic EP; however, the raw innocence slathered over the melodic arrangement is overwhelmingly kaleidoscopic. From ‘When The Days Are Long’ to ‘Many-Colored Roses’, Bryan Yurcan navigates life experiences in a harmonic, melodic way.

Reminiscent of John Denver with the poetic intimacy of James Taylor, Bryan Yurcan connects with audiences on a deeper level. What I find intriguing about Songs For Eclectic Weirdos is how each song is similar but has a difference woven into its sonic tapestry. ‘Long Road (To Kalamazoo)’ is a song of empowerment and optimism with a toe-tapping folk bounce. ‘At The End Of The Day’, however, retains the guitar-driven arrangement with a folk sound but there is a melancholic quality sending shivers down your spine.

The melodies can hold their own with the acoustic instrumentation, but it is Yurcan’s dulcet voice that makes Songs For Eclectic Weirdos something special. Warm and rich, he captures your heart with the comforting execution. Interestingly enough, while listening to the vocals is like being embraced in a sonic hug, Yurcan’s work can be haunting.

Finding the balance between sophisticated sounds and wistful rawness, Bryan Yurcan intoxicates listeners with his new EP Songs For Eclectic Weirdos.
