SWEETS – Dead Ends (2023)

Described by the press as “…quality in every aspect” (Trust The Doc) and “…more proof of the amazing music scene in Ireland” (John Kennedy from Radio X), Irish foursome SWEETS is insatiable class in its purest form. Drawing together the talents of long-time collaborators and friends Liam Marley (vocals and guitar), Lorcan Bourke (drums), Keith Lawler (guitar) and Bertie Kelly (bass), SWEETS hit the ground running in 2021. A positive product of the Covid-19 pandemic, the lads blend elements of hard rock, alternative rock, grunge and metal in their hard-hitting tunes. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Dead Ends’.

Following their critically acclaimed debut song ‘Charm Offensive’, SWEETS adopt a strong hard rock flavour in ‘Dead Ends’. From the first second, the lads come at you with an “in your face” attitude ensuring you pay attention. Interestingly enough, while the powerful guitar-driven tune is laced with pounding drums creating a gritty melody, there is a flowing gentleness underneath the brash sonic assault. Beautifully textured, Marley’s vocals caress the gruffness of ‘Dead Ends’ with a soft, haunting, almost hollow sound. Gentle but brash, abrupt but flowing, gritty but clean-cut and soothing, ‘Dead Ends’ has it all.

Just as the melody is out of this world, so is the lyricism highlighting the poetic proficiency of SWEETS. Showcasing the band in a dark, ethereal, hazy style, the lads effortlessly ensnare your senses in an intoxicating way. With their review of ‘Charm Offensive’, God In The TV shared “…if this is SWEETS’ charm offensive, imagine what the sound is when the gloves are off” – I think ‘Dead Ends’ is that exhilarating gloves-off sound.

In addition to the single, SWEETS released an official music video for ‘Dead Ends’. You can view it below or on their YouTube channel. Please note: this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
