Benton Crane – Outlier (Among The Stars) (2022)

Hailing from the USA, singer-songwriter Benton Crane has a unique sound falling into the realm of psychedelic rock. Heavy on the synths and flooded with profoundness, his singles are both head-spinning and thoughtful with a tinge of obscurity. Featured on Less Than 1000 Followers, It’s All Indie, Couch Mag, Plastic Magazine, Mesmerized and Heart Radio, Crane is reaching audiences far beyond his North American borders. Come with us as we delve into his music with the song ‘Outlier (Among The Stars)’.

Preceding his well-received singles ‘Nuclear Night’ and ‘Daylight On The Run’, ‘Outlier (Among The Stars)’ is a synth-heavy fusion of indie-rock and psychedelia with post-punk undertones. Immediately tossing you into a heady sonic whirlpool, ‘Outlier (Among The Stars)’ twirls you about with kaleidoscopic lights flitting before your eyes. An obscurity exists in the arrangement adding an eclectic edge to the song. Yet, it is not this obscure sprinkle of synths that turns my head; it is the emotion felt as a result of this obscurity. A sense of being pulled in two directions while falling deeper into a chasm of confusion but I love it!

When speaking about his music, Benton Crane explains that “the heaviness of life requires that we allow ourselves to escape from the chaos…I want people to feel heard/be seen through my music as well as to offer refuge for folks that may need an escape…” Well, he has definitely hit the nail on the head with ‘Outlier (Among The Stars)’. Laced with wistful vulnerability, Crane delicately captures all your anxiety, tension and inner turmoil then release it in the scattering sense of sonic relief.
