Track of the Day: Tired of Fighting – Hollow

If you are a fan of Taking Back Sunday, Dashboard Confessional or Motion City Soundtrack, the chances are you’ll love the upcoming trio Tired of Fighting. Known for their energetic, powerful performances, the UK-based group has been described as having “music that grabs your heart and makes you sit up straight and listen…” (Alive and Gigging). Yet, while the lads are skilled at captivating audiences’ live, their released material is just as intoxicating.

From their debut single ‘Tired of Failing’ to their new single ‘Hollow’, the alternative rock meets emo group has received coverage from notable blogs like Spotlight UK, NE Volume, Narc Magazine, and BBC Radio. Following their explosive single ‘Chocolate’, Tired of Fighting slather their well-known alternative rock sound with tinges of indie-rock and pop-punk. Opening as a stark, barebones and minimalistic sound, Tired of Fighting introduce us to a heart-breaking basic vocals arrangement; however, the lads take you by surprise mid-way showcasing their versatility and boldness. Interestingly enough, while the pounding drums and dynamic guitars carry the gruff vocals, there is a simple tenderness woven through the blast of music.

Unlike ‘Chocolate’ which has a strong emo-rock/pop-punk sound, ‘Hollow’ is as overwhelming in a hard-hitting, soul-stirring way. What I love about ‘Hollow’ is how the band captures you with its desperate, breathtaking vocals before throwing you into a sonic whirlwind. The bold movement shows how both simplistic and kaleidoscopic sounds can be tender, vulnerable and fragile.

“’Hollow’ is our fourth single, it’s a song about loveliness and dealing with loss, but also ultimately about growth that occurs with such a change…” – Tired of Fighting on ‘Hollow’
