Shivan Luca – Seventy (2022)

With the aim of creating songs that are poetic, profound, heartfelt, honest and relatable, singer-songwriter Shivan Luca connects with audiences on a deeper, intimate level. A self-proclaimed “pop music fanatic”, Luca’s music has a sentimental pop style woven through his melodies. Interestingly enough, while old-school and modern pop influences his music, Luca notes a diverse list of influential artists including Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Death Cab For Cutie, Charlie Puth, The Strokes and Led Zeppelin. One of the more recent singles released by Luca is the song ‘Seventy’.

Following his track ‘If You Don’t Mean It’, and preceding his new single ‘Every Day’, ‘Seventy’ finds that line between Ed Sheeran and The Maine. A soothing, smooth and gentle melody, ‘Seventy’ carries you along on a glistening sonic river with bright lights flitting about you in the kaleidoscopic arrangement. Add Luca’s soft but bold vocals, and you have a song that gives you a comforting hug with its laid-back charm. Yet, while the track has a positive, calming tone, the lyricism is a little more heart-aching.

In an interview with Volatile Weekly, Luca shared that “inspiration is always a feeling, whether it’s some emotionally-charged thing in my life…I want my songs to be interesting, unique and varied, but I think at the end of the day most of my songs are about love” – and he achieves this in ‘Seventy’. One of the singles off Luca’s upcoming full-length album, ‘Seventy’ touches on wanting love to cope with difficult times. Luca explains that the song “tells a relatable story of yearning for love through hard times”, something I think many of us feel in our uncertain world.

Sincere, sentimental, reflective and honest, Shivan Luca has won my heart with his single ‘Seventy’ as I’m sure he will yours.
