Jaxyn Lethe – What Do You Do With No One (2022)

Described by Less Than 1000 Followers as “charming”, Jaxyn Lethe is already captivating critics with her music – and she only has one song to her name. A singer-songwriter and producer from New York City, the US-based artist entrances listeners with her soft, soothing synth-pop sound. While this single is her first hitting the blogosphere and playlists, this is not the first time Lethe has produced music. Self-producing original singles for at least three years before this release, Lethe knows what she is doing – well, at least I think so. Come with us as we dip our toes into her debut track ‘What Do You Do With No One’.

With a desire to connect with listeners on a deeper level, Lethe adopts a personal narrative in ‘What Do You Do With No One’. Taking inspiration from the short film by Andrea Dorfman, How To Be Alone, the single touches on the emotions felt when being isolated – something many people across the globe have experienced during these pandemic years. Lethe explains that she “wrote this song during a time of extreme isolation and loneliness…” Interestingly enough, while there is a melancholic tinge, ‘What Do You Do With No One’ approaches the feeling of happiness in what is stereotypically a fearful, poignant setting. Lethe adds that “this song presents the paradox of feeling happy while alone, and my efforts to do so…to analyse one’s relationship with loneliness while engaging with mine.”

Regarding melodic arrangement, Jaxyn Lethe adopts a minimalistic approach with this simplistic single. A synth-driven track, ‘What Do You Do With No One’ can fall into the category of dream-pop with a particular nostalgic 80s vibe. While this song may be Jaxlan Lethe’s debut, its sophisticated tone makes one believe she has been producing songs for ages. Hang on, she has, and her elegant maturity flows through in ‘What Do You Do With No One’.
