Dallin Applebaum – Ghosttown, USA (2022)

Early in her life, Dallin Applebaum began learning classical piano, and as a teenager, she began writing original material and singing – the rest, they say, is history. Following college in New York, singer-songwriter Applebaum began touring with established artists like Rachel Platten, as well as working with recording artists including Matchbox 20. At the same time, she was runner-up for Best Folk Song in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2009. Now, 13 years later, Dallin Applebaum is releasing original music as a solo artist. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Ghosttown, USA’.

Following her electronic rock band SKYES and releases under the moniker Alise Indall, Applebaum is embracing a piano-driven style with a softer, gentler, pop ballad sound. Following her track ‘’Til Death Do Us Part’, ‘Ghosttown, USA’ is the third single from her upcoming debut album Grey Matters (set for release in early 2023). As with the other tracks on the album (at least the ones that have been released as singles), ‘Ghosttown, USA’ is melodic, simplistic and laidback. Interestingly enough, while the single has a charming, soothing feeling, a more desperate theme is woven into the song.

Sophisticated and mature, Applebaum’s vocals have a richness, however, a deep vulnerability and tinge of innocence can be heard within the warm tones. Touching on the realities of dating, ‘Ghosttown, USA’ explores the issue of being ignored after the date – or rather “ghosted”. No one enjoys being ghosted, but it happens and Applebaum captures the depths of despair, confusion, frustration and sadness in this poignant single.

Sincere, sentimental, genuine and heartfelt, Dallin Applebaum shows how simple arrangements with powerful themes can be more kaleidoscopic than the most “out there” rock song.
