K I T – When We Say Goodbye (2022)

Hailing from a musical family, singer-songwriter K I T found his flair for music when he picked up a guitar during his teenage years. From a 14-year-old guitarist to a student at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, and now a unique artist releasing original melodies, K I T is beautiful sound personified. Featured on notable press like Indie Dock Music Blog, FV Music Blog, Sinusoidal Music and various playlists, K I T is reaching audiences on an international scale. The latest addition to his well-received discography is the single ‘When We Say Goodbye’.

Following his debut EP Close Up (released in 2021), ‘When We Say Goodbye is K I T’s first release this year. An evolution of his sound, the new track is a harmonic melding of contemporary pop with indie-rock and tinges of indie-folk. Soft, soothing and gentle, ‘When We Say Goodbye’ has a laidback vibe to the indie melody; however, there is a slight edginess with smidges of groovy rock tones in the song. I find this intriguing as it showcases a lilt toward the sounds of 70s rock/pop but retaining the commercial, modern-day pop design charming older and younger audiences alike.

Unlike the tracks from Close Up, ‘When We Say Goodbye’ has greater warmth in the melody. While K I T has shown versatility with the global tones in ‘The Fire’ and the indie-pop acoustic style of ‘Better’, ‘When We Say Goodbye’ continues to showcase maturity in K I T’s new sound. Working with an ever-expanding network of writers and studios, K I T has sonic diversity on his side; however, it is this collaboration with Mike Halls that really shows a new side to the UK-based artist’s repertoire.

Intriguing, sincere, sentimental and chilled out, K I T brings an innocent base to a sophisticated arrangement in ‘When We Say Goodbye’.
