Mick J. Clark – This Moment (2022)

With over 60 original songs, four albums, and even a book under his belt, singer-songwriter and author Mick J. Clark is more than the average musician. This is my introduction to the man, but he has already turned heads across the globe receiving acclaim from various radio stations, placing on music charts (including the USA iTunes Top 100 Rock Songs), and features on international press like Euro Indie Music and A&R Factory. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘This Moment’.

Following his single ‘Arriba!’ (released in 2021), ‘This Moment’ is Mick J. Clark’s first release in 2022. Unlike the high-powered, upbeat and high-paced ‘Arriba!’, ‘This Moment’ adopts a calmer, more tender arrangement. Soothing and soft, there is a sophisticated charm to the single; however, a slight hint of upbeat pop can be heard in the underlying melody. Potentially what makes this song sophisticated and elegant is the acoustic-inspired instrumentation, as well as the interspersed string section creating a haunting quality.

While the female and male vocals make one believe this is a jovial love song (and it sort of is), there is a vulnerability in its tender tones. A song about saying goodbye, the lovers weave their voices into a heartfelt melody that can make you smile in the sadness. Ending with the words “I loved you so”, you can feel the fragility of the pair but also notice the strength in their acceptance of the situation. I am not ashamed to admit that the song moved me to tears with its delicate beauty.
